The best D.W. Griffith movie we have seen so far. It is a love story that doesn't get much done. It is presumably a modern take on Romeo and Juliet for the time. They don't kiss, they don't have much dialogue, and they never admit their love to each other. There are many creepy scenes where he (Chinky/ main love interest) watches the heroine sleep. If you liked Edward Cullen, you'd love this. He's also high for most of the movie.
Basically the plot is as follows: Man watches girl, girl gets beaten by father, girl runs away, Man helps girl, girl gets taken home by her father, and dies. The Chinese man commits suicide. THE END.
Of course, there are many racial slurrs, like the main character being called "Chinky" or the "yellow man"
But, It is D.W. Griffith, the most racist man we know.
